General

Jeanne Williamson Wall '47, Thomasville, recently moved to Piedmont Crossing, a retirement center in Thomasville, NC.

Rachel Buie '48, Asheville, is proud to announce that her daughter Angela C. Bensberg received her Masters in the TESOL program from Greensboro College in August 2014.

Louise Sanford Beasley '52, Durham, enjoys ballroom dancing and was recently dancing at the Sheraton Hotel competition in Greensboro as part of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Durham, NC.

Elizabeth Callis Davis '52, Columbia SC, is 83 years old, widowed and enjoys living alone in her condo. She is still very active in her family with 3 daughters, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren with another on the way. She is still active in church and community and enjoys her many friends.

Carolina Haigler Finley '58, Wilkesboro, is enjoying living in an apartment in her son's home, painting and family including 10 grandchildren.




Janet Best Rolison '58, Winston-Salem, and her Cooperative Extension Club participated in a program in 2012 to make dresses using pillowcases for a national organization - DRESS A GIRL AROUND THE WORLD. 

Nancy Buckner Hyde '61, Belmont, is proud to announce that her eldest son, Kent Hyde, teacher, coach and athletic director at Holbrook Middle School was awarded the 2014 Star Teacher Student Award in Gaston County Schools and the Gastonia Gazette.

Ruth H. Jobe (Boo Hunt Jobe) '61, Greensboro, shares that members of the class of 1961 grieve over the death of their classmate Penelope (Penny) Niven. They will forever cherish memories of their times together.

R. Carter Pate ’76, Dallas, TX, Chief Executive Officer of MV Transportation and former Chair of the Greensboro College Board of Trustees, will be retiring soon to spend more time with his family. Pate will continue to work with MV as a strategic advisor with a focus on international business expansion.  During his tenure as CEO, MV grew from $725 million in revenue to over $1 billion. Pate is married to Angela Ward Pate a 1978 graduate of Greensboro College.

Anthony J. Scotti, Jr. '87, Irmo, SC, received a 2013 SC Governor's Distinguished Professor Award as a faculty member at Midlands Technical College, Columbia, SC.

Ronald L. Merritt, Jr. '89, Athens, AL, has been married for 10 years to Jennifer who is Department Chair at Athens State University for math, computer science and natural science and Associate Professor of mathematics.

Anna Reynolds Day '91, Hanover, MD, started her own business this year as a freelance translator. 

Danielle M. Kest Alchin '03, Orlando, FL, received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida during the summer of 2013.

Joanna D. Gwynn '05, Pelham, has been named Principal of the Year for Caswell County Schools.  

David Allen Stallings'12, Manteo, holds several GC team records for his play as linebacker on the GC football team. He is currently working on Justin Allgaier's pit crew. Article
