General Announcements

Dr. Lynn Wright Kernodle 1968, Greensboro, received a promotion in June 2010 at the North Carolina Humanities Council. She is now the Associate Executive Director with oversight of program management and evaluation. She also continues in her position as Director of the Teachers Institute, which is a free professional development program for K-12 NC public school educators. In addition to these activities, Dr. Kernodle also teaches part time at UNC Greensboro in the School of Education.

Sheila Clendenning 1972, Chesapeake, Va., continues her career as an educator in retirement, serving as the Secretary/Membership Chair of the Chesapeake Arboretum ("Nature's Classroom"). She invites you to visit this non-profit, volunteer-run urban tree preserve either electronically (www.ChesArbor.org or join us at Facebook) or in person if you're in the Hampton Roads, Va., area!

Heidi Kent Summey 1984, Jamestown, was hired as assistant professor of special education at High Point University in the School of Education. Read more here!

Christine Wilhelm Phaup 1989, Montpelier, Va, earned a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia in August, 2010. She is currently teaching special education at South Anna Elementary School in Hanover County, Va.

John L. Hill 1994 was recently named men's basketball coach at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Read more about Hill's new opportunity here.

Brian C. Gano 2002, Louisburg, currently works at Louisburg College as the Assistant Dean for Housing. In addition, Gano teaches American National Government and First Year Seminar at the college.

Peter J. Kusiak 2002 and wife Kim L. Kusiak of Mint Hill own The Little Gym of Lake Norman. They just celebrated their son's first birthday and are expecting their second child, a girl, on March 10, 2011.

Kathleen "Katy" Moore Mulleady 2003 of Cary, currently works as a Clinical Research Regulatory Specialist for i3 Research. She has been married for seven years to Alan Mulleady. They have two children, Julianna, 3, and Makenna, 2.

Tiffany M. Naste 2003, Boston, Massachusetts, recently received a promotion to Program Director at the Justice Resource Institute. The agency serves struggling children and their families in the Boston area. Naste also works at Brigham and Women's Hospital in the Emergency Department and would like to open a small cake business in the near future.

Allison L. Lanier 2007 of Greensboro, currently works for CCS Medical-Wound Care Division in High Point. She serves the Triad and other extending areas.



Deaths

Rachel Fox Futrell 1943, Washington, died Sept. 29, 2010. (obituary)

Anna Rue Hauser Hernandez 1943, died on March 16, 2001 after an extensive battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Nelle Rousseau Bailey 1946, Raleigh died Oct 11, 2010. (obituary) Her friend Barbara Lyon 1958, said, "Nelle was very active in the Wake County GC Alumni group for many years and I enjoyed my friendship with her at the gatherings."

Dr. Janet Fortune, Asheville, died Oct. 17, 2010. She was an associate professor of education at Greensboro College from 2006-2009. Recently, she had been serving as the Elementary Education Coordinator and Co-Coordinator of the Integrated Education Program at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC. A memorial service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in Broyhill Chapel on the Mars Hill campus. (obituary) (remembrance)

William Llewellyn was born to Kelly Roberts Wesney 1996 and Denny Wesney on May 22, 2010.

Rebecca "Becky" Newlin Walker 2005 and husband Charles A. Walker welcomed their first son. Charles V, on Feb. 20, 2009.

Marriages

Patty Raube Keller 1998 was married on June 27, 2010 to John Keller. The following alumnae attended the wedding: Adrienne Haitz 1998, Nicole Durand 1998, Natalie Serianni 1998, Jennifer Douthat Hughes 1998, Maria Notini 1999, and Beverly Purssord 1999.
Anitra G. Canty 2003, and Paul A. Louis 2004, Wilmington, were married May 19, 2007.

Meghan E. Thomas 2003, Greensboro, was married to Brent L. Gray on Oct. 10, 2010

Ben Keith Edwards 2004 married Elizabeth Ann Cox on Oct. 10, 2009.

Michael K. Henry 2006 was married to Alison C. DeMoss on Oct. 2, 2010 in Franktown, Va. Matthew J. Henry 2005 and Christopher A. Henry 2003 were groomsmen.

P. Leigh McBride 2007, Eden, was married to Mark Smith on Oct. 16, 2010.


Ashley "Megan" Williams 2006, and Brian McCaffrey (left) married on Sept. 18, 2010 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in downtown Greensboro. Reception followed at Magnolia Manor in Colfax.
