Greensboro College Alumni PrideNotes, March 2011

General Announcements

Ruth Valjean Fox 1961, Cary, writes:


“I am well and still painting the town as seen in the photo of the "Cary Then and Now" mural (below) at 220 W. Chatham Street in Cary, NC. My art gallery is inside the building. Please come and visit! I would love to see some of my "old" GC class friends.”






Jason L. Lippard 2006, Statesville, has been hired as the new head football coach at North Stokes High School in Danbury, NC. Read more about Lippard's exciting opportunity here.



Ian P. Bailey 2008, Cornelius, has recently accepted the position of Event Coordinator with Octagon. Bailey will be working on the NASCAR Spring Cup Series doing Sprints marketing and promotions at 28 of the 38 races this year.



John L. Hinson Jr. 2009, Lexington, received his Master of Music degree from East Carolina University in Dec. 2010. He has recently been hired as the Director of Music at Tyro United Methodist Church in Lexington, NC.



Robert Lowe, the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Greensboro College, has resigned from his position with the college effective March 11, 2011. Lowe was instrumental in shaping the information technology for the Athletic Program at Greensboro College.



O. Ray Martin, Liberty, has resigned from his post of Full Professor of Art and chairman of the Art Department at Greensboro College. Join us in wishing Professor Martin well in all his future endeavors!



Dr. April Najjaj, Durham, has resigned from her position as Associate Professor of History at Greensboro College effective at the beginning of the fall semester of 2011. Dr. Najjaj will be pursuing a faculty appointment at Mount Olive College.

Kelman P. Gomo, Greensboro, in the death of his wife, Pearl Harris Gomo, on March 26, 2011. Mr. Gomo is a member of the Peter Doub Society at Greensboro College. The Gomo family has recently established a scholarship at Greensboro College. Donations are welcome for this worthy cause. (Pearl Gomo's obituary)



Dr. Kate Peters, Greensboro, in the death of her father, Mr. Kenneth Peters. Dr. Peters is currently a Professor of Spanish at Greensboro College.



Dr. Mike Sistrom, Professor of History at Greensboro College, in the death of his mother, Dorothy E. Sistrom, on March 15, 2011. (Dorothy Sistrom's obituary)





Marriages



Amy L. Whitaker 2003 and Kevin J. Ward 2001 of Mooresville, were married on March 5, 2011. The alumni that were attendance were April Alston Purnell, Laura Patterson, Laura Crumpton Gann, Erica Goldberg Shanahan, Anitra Canty Louis, Paul Louis, Todd Helton, Jessica Heckert, Michael Shepherd, and Becca Altizer Allen. Dr. Stuart Davidson (who was Amy's academic advisor at GC) played the bagpipes for the service.



Sarah Campbell Amick 2004 and Tim Cecil Amick, Greensboro, were married on Oct. 30, 2010.



Shannon L. Ashburn 2009, Reidsville, will be getting married to Jason E. Poindexter of Ruffin, on April 16, 2011. Read more about their upcoming marriage here.





Births/Adoptions



Eric R. Skidmore 1998 and Jennifer Erb Skidmore 2000 from Reisterstown, MD welcomed their third child, Jesse Lee Skidmore, on Feb. 17, 2011.
