General Announcements

Anne Parris Ogilvy 1994, Cumming, Ga, was named as the 2011 School Counselor of the Year for the state of Georgia. Ogilvy was also one of the six finalists in the running for the title of 2012 National School Counselor of the Year.

Shannon F. Brown 1997, Greensboro, is currently a Lateral Entry Specialist for Guilford County Schools. In Oct, the school district was awarded an almost 2 million dollar grant to recruit STEM teachers for the school system. Brown will serve as program director over this new venture within Guilford County Schools.

Patricia Raube Keller 1998, Mandan, Nd, completed her doctorate in Education Leadership from Rowan University on Dec. 16, 2011.

Steven P. Ashley 2002, Greensboro, was a featured speaker at the 2011 Internet Summit held in Raleigh on Nov 15-16, 2011. Ashley is the vice president of internet marketing for Market America/Shop.com.

John M. McIntosh 2005, A.J. Schraeder 2005, Al-don P. Schraeder 2009, Tom F. McCoy 2007, Matthew Schantz, and Bob Beshere are making audiences laugh in the sketch comedy troupe, Mon Frere. They perform regularly at the Idiot Box in downtown Greensboro. Besides their stage performances, this troupe is busy creating a television pilot for an upcoming Comedy Central contest. Benjamin A. Strickland 2007, Snow Camp, is currently performing with the Navy Jazz Band of the Mid-South all over the southern region. Hear his performance of "Here Comes Santa Claus" here!

Deanne A. Gerson 2008, Atlanta, Ga, has recently accepted the position of Health Educator with HealthMPowers in Norcross, Ga. Gerson will be helping to provide information, resources, skills and motivation to school staff, students and families so that they may take responsibility for their own health.

Erica R. Bledsoe 2009, Atlanta, Ga, works with The Aspire Group, selling tickets for NCAA Championship Events.

General Announcements

Christopher D. Fowler 1987, Aberdeen, is a member of the rock band, Street Party. They recently produced and debuted their initial CD, Beautifully Complicated. The band has started on the promotion circuit and will play in Southern Pines this Dec. For more information, click here.

Robert D. Stewart 2001, Deland, Fl, was recently named the Director of Admissions at Stetson University in Deland, Fl. Prior to this new job opportunity, Stewart had held the Director of Financial Aid position at Stetson University for two years.

Carolyn Watkins Flowers 2003, Browns Summit, was re-elected to the YWCA World Board as the World Treasurer at the YWCA World Conference held in July in Zurich, Switzerland. Flowers will represent North America and serve on this board for the next four years. In August, she was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the YWCA Greensboro at their annual meeting.

Danny G. Mackey 2003, Greensboro, was featured in the Nov 23-29, 2011 issue of Yes Weekly. The article focused on his job as Spazz, the Greensboro Grasshoppers mascot, and his day job as Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's personal manager. Read more about Danny's success here!

Kristi L. Hunter 2005, Director of Student Activities and Orientation at Greensboro College, won the Free to Breathe 5K on Nov. 12, 2011 in Greensboro. With that victory, she clinched the championship in this year's Greensboro Race Series. Hunter was featured in a Q&A with News and Record editor Eddie Wooten in the Nov. 16, 2011 newspaper's blog. Dr. Rebecca F. Blomgren, Dean of Professional & Graduate Studies at Greensboro College, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. Along with her former duties, Dr. Blomgren will chair the graduate council, oversee graduate program development, assist in the coordination of events, and provide leadership for new initiatives.

Charmaine M. Finch resigned from her position in the Office of the President on Oct. 24, 2011. Join us in wishing her well in her future endeavors!

Congratulations to Julee Fortune Marshall, Administrative Assistant to the Faculty at Greensboro College, and to her husband Alan Marshall for Mr. Marshall's election to the Pleasant Garden Town Council on Nov. 8, 2011.

Dr. Frederick J. Oerther III, Professor of Economics at Greensboro College, was on WFMY News 2 discussing Europe's Debt Crisis on Nov. 10, 2011. Check out Dr. Oerther's television debut here!
