Greensboro College Alumni PrideNotes February 2010

General Announcements

Camille Ogle Yorkey 1968, Wilmington, N.C., shared a message regarding her current treatment for lymphoma: "Welcome all my friends. Through this website, I will attempt to document my journey to finally conquer lymphoma; my constant and ever-changing nemesis for the past 10 years. I have been accepted into a clinical trial at the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at the new UNC Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill. Through this 6-month process, I hope not only to achieve a cure for myself, but to provide valuable information for the treatment of others with this form of cancer. I will be in isolation for at least 3 months, so please check this site frequently."

Justin Weik 2002, Charleston, S.C., recently received a promotion and will be moving to London in March for 2 years. Justin will be an account executive and managing the European Arts & Cultural division of his company's nonprofit client base. Justin is very excited to be starting this new adventure!

Christopher Mock 2008 recently completed a mission trip to Gangtok, India, which is in the northeast part of India in the state of Sikkim. Christopher explains: "Three local physicians and I traveled to the Taktse International School, where we medically treated both students and faculty. We also taught basic medical practices, such as CPR and first aid. We brought over 200 lbs. of medical supplies, school supplies, and sports equipment. It was an immensely beneficial experience for me. I returned home with a new appreciation for life and understanding for cultures other than my own. It solidified my intentions of practicing medicine and helping people as best I can. Since graduating from Greensboro College, I have been working at an urgent care center in Greensboro. It has provided me with great experience and insight into the medical profession. I have recently gained acceptance to medical schools at Michigan State and Virginia Tech. I am waiting to hear from other schools before I make my final decision. I aspire to go into either general surgery or emergency medicine, with a strong focus on mission work. I continue to run marathons, and will run in as many races as I can before the rigorous medical school schedule commences."
