The Rev. Dr. Les Wicker 1965 was instrumental in the founding of a new church in Florida. Most people think of retirement when they reach 65, but not so with Rev. Wicker. He is a lifetime minister except for the two years he returned to his alma mater to serve as Dean for Student Affairs in the early 70s. Five years ago the National Association of Congregational Churches invited Rev. Wicker to found a new church in Naples, Florida. Unfamiliar with church plants, Rev. and Mrs. Wicker accepted the challenge and took the leap of faith in 2004. In five short years the church was up and running and held its first service in its beautiful new sanctuary on December 4. So many came to the opening service, some had to be turned away due to seating and parking. Les feels in awe of the success of the church and feels gratified to know his career as a pastor will end with the building of the beautiful new church.
Jason Layman 2001, Fort Mill, S.C., passed the National Boards in January 2010 and is a National Board Certified Teacher. Jason is a Physical Education teacher at Gold Hill Elementary School.
