General Announcements
 
Peggy Purnell Bowen 1944, Goode, VA, is still up and enjoying life at age 90!
Margaret Sharpe Younger 1944, Sierra Vista, AZ, will be celebrating her 90th birthday on December 9th of this year.

Jean Penny Yount 1953, Hendersonville, retired from directing "Cherub Choir" after 8 years and is still singing in the Hendersonville Chorale.

Judy Peterson Mendenhall 1960, High Point, former mayor and council member, made a successful bid to re-enter local politics by unseating Councilman Mike Pugh. Mendenhall garnered 2,833 votes to Pugh's 2,127.  To read more click here.

Pell Rouse Foster 1969, Rocky Mount, lives across from Benvenue Country Club, site of the 2013 USA South Spring Sports Festival Golf Tournament.  She is a certified children and teen etiquette Instructor, teaches 6th grade Ballroom Dance, and during the summer runs etiquette classes for BCC Day Camp for ages 4-12. She loves to travel to Mexico with her husband, Sonny, who is the Vice President for Smithson Construction Company.

Dr. Trudy L. Wade 1975, Jamestown, is heading to Raleigh to serve in the state Senate, leaving her District 5 City Council seat vacant.  To read more click here.

Karen Williams Vellucci 1977, Winston Salem, is teaching 1st grade at Jefferson Elementary and was named teacher of the year in 2011. Richard A. Vellucci 1978, retired from Wells Fargo after 33 years and is now a VP Private Banker for Bank of NC.

Janet Hawks Spoon 1983, Lenoir, is serving as the Secretary/Treasurer of Patterson School Foundation, Inc. in Patterson, NC.

Kimberly Thomas Branch 1986, McLean, VA, a principal information systems engineer with The MITRE Corporation's Center for Connected Government, which works to more effectively address critical national priorities and integrate across the company's portfolio of civilian agency programs, received a Technology All-Star award for her technical and leadership accomplishments presented at the 17th annual Women of Color STEM Award Conference held in Dallas October 11-13.

Anne Parris Ogilvy 1994, Cumming, Ga, was named as the 2011 School Counselor of the Year for the state of Georgia.  Ogilvy was also one of the six finalists in the running for the title of 2012 National School Counselor of the Year.

Jason R. Cialone 1996, Copiague, NY, is a Recruitment Coordinator for Dowling College on Long Island, NY.

Patricia C. Burgoon 1997, Virginia Beach, VA, is currently working at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA as a Conference and Event Coordinator.  On Saturday, November 3rd, they celebrated their Homecoming Weekend with a football game against Greensboro College.  She was elated to have GC visit the campus and was rooting for her home team.  She had a quick moment to catch the team just before they hit the field and grabbed a quick picture with them, letting them know she would be cheering them on!  The picture and the brief visit with the team made her day, and she wanted to share her moment with the alumni association.  

Jason L. Frady 1997, Hull, MA,  was named Senior Manager in Performance Measurement at Columbia Management.   He has worked at Columbia Management in Boston since 2008 and been in the Performance Measurement team since 2010.  His team calculates investment performance, characteristics data, and risk statistics for institutional clients and retail marketing materials.  He lives in Hull, MA with his wife Amy, and children James, 7, and Leah, 5.  He also currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Deacons at Second Congregational Church in Cohasset, MA.
 
Rebecca E. Palsha-Hopkins 2000, Anchorage, AK, was on the online cover of the New York Times's website Nov. 22 with photos of her family. The photos  accompanied an article about how social media are changing the way American families are observing Thanksgiving.  Read more here.

Jennifer L. Morton 2007, Ramseur, was recently awarded the Certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP) designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers (ICB), a subsidiary of the American Bankers Association, in Washington, DC.

Nicholas A. Scarpola 2008, Fallston, MD, helped with the women's basketball team when he was a student at GC. He is continuing his athletic work in Bel Air, MD, as an assistant coach with the women's basketball team at Harford Community College.

Tara J. Titcombe 2008, Tempe, AZ, accepted a position with US Airways marketing department as the copywriter.
Michelle Lemmons O'Neill 2010, Durham. While pursuing a master's in physical therapy at UNC Chapel Hill, Michelle will be taking part in the UNC PT Outreach initiative to work with patients at Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro in Antigua, Guatemala this spring.  They will be working to facilitate a collaborative learning model between Guatemalan physical therapists and UNC students and faculty.  They will also be volunteering with De Casas A Hogares (From Houses to Homes) who work to improve the lives and health among highland Guatemalans.  A blog will be updated daily during their trip April 23 - May 1, 2013; Click here.

General Announcements

Peggy Purnell Bowen 1944, Goode, VA, is still up and enjoying life at age 90!

Martha Brady Bruton 1947, Wilmington, authored a Christian book, "Come to my Banquet Table," which is featured in all the local Wilmington bookstores. She also helped author a #1 New York Best Seller last year.

Martha Hoffner Casey 1949, and her husband Joseph, Huntington, WV, live in Woodlands Retirement Community, which they love, but she still misses North Carolina.

Louise Sanford Beasley 1952, Durham, started Ballroom Dancing after the 
passing of her husband, Terry, in 2007.  She continues to dance today and has even competed locally in Greensboro for the past few years.

Betsy Lawrence Wengert 1953, Cape Coral, FL, is still loving sunny Florida and is looking forward to her Class Reunion in 2013. She urges all her fellow classmates to join the festivities!

On Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20, members of the Aquabelles (a Greensboro College synchronized swimming team from 1960-1980) reunited at Greensboro College.  In attendance were Mary Kay Lester Forbes '63, Jan Norvell Little '63, Jane Beane Moore '63, Chris Stewart Wagoner '64, Norma Binder Shehane '64, Betty Lynn Gilbert Lambert '65, Elizabeth Jones '71, Jan Dowds Meade '71, Connie Barrett Hilliard '73, Barbara Hines McBride '73, Scoggin Jones '74, Mary Turner Dalton '75, Darlene Henry Tribby '77, Ruth Moss '77, Martha Simpson Pearce '77, Janice Ball Amos '80, Dr. Willie Taylor and guests.  This group of alumni installed an Aquabelles Memory Case for permanent display in the William S. Ariail Hall of Fame.  The case is full of memorabilia from the Aquabelles, representing more than 200 alumni who participated in the program over its twenty year history. 

James E. Kirk Jr. 1965, Azle, TX, retired from Lockheed Martin in January 2012 after 44 years  as an Aero Engineer.

Joan Garner Powers 1979, Bennett, has retired after 32 years as a K-12 Special Ed. Teacher.

Leslie Andrews Thacker 1981, Collettsville, retired from teaching Exceptional Children in June 2012 after 30 years. The majority of her career was spent teaching for Caldwell County Schools.

Kimmerly Milner 1994, Greensboro, is currently participating in The Guilford Education Alliance Leadership Academy.

Melissa L. Herbert 2004, Sherrills Ford, has been teaching for 8 years. This is her 6th year teaching at Rocky River Elementary in Cabarrus County.

Andrew J. Hartman 2009, New York, NY, is an associate producer on an upcoming Broadway musical which will debut in the 2014-2015 season.  He is also investigating an option to do the pre-Broadway tryout in Greensboro, NC.

Charlene M. Wright 2010, Greensboro, began her job as a 2nd grade teacher this year at Greensboro Academy.

Brian S. Muller 1999, Greensboro, was named Principal at Southwest Guilford Elementary in High Point.

Eric L. Pugh 2004, Wilmington, DE, is currently in his 2nd year of Doctorate Studies in Educational Administration at Delaware State University. He recently had his 3rd child (1st son) on September 7, named Eric Lee Pugh, Jr. He was 8 lbs., 9 oz.

Robert K. Teeple 2007, Kewaskum, WI, graduated from Marquette University with a Ph.D in Systemic Theology.
