General Announcements

Peggy Purnell Bowen 1944, Goode, VA, is still up and enjoying life at age 90!

Martha Brady Bruton 1947, Wilmington, authored a Christian book, "Come to my Banquet Table," which is featured in all the local Wilmington bookstores. She also helped author a #1 New York Best Seller last year.

Martha Hoffner Casey 1949, and her husband Joseph, Huntington, WV, live in Woodlands Retirement Community, which they love, but she still misses North Carolina.

Louise Sanford Beasley 1952, Durham, started Ballroom Dancing after the 
passing of her husband, Terry, in 2007.  She continues to dance today and has even competed locally in Greensboro for the past few years.

Betsy Lawrence Wengert 1953, Cape Coral, FL, is still loving sunny Florida and is looking forward to her Class Reunion in 2013. She urges all her fellow classmates to join the festivities!

On Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20, members of the Aquabelles (a Greensboro College synchronized swimming team from 1960-1980) reunited at Greensboro College.  In attendance were Mary Kay Lester Forbes '63, Jan Norvell Little '63, Jane Beane Moore '63, Chris Stewart Wagoner '64, Norma Binder Shehane '64, Betty Lynn Gilbert Lambert '65, Elizabeth Jones '71, Jan Dowds Meade '71, Connie Barrett Hilliard '73, Barbara Hines McBride '73, Scoggin Jones '74, Mary Turner Dalton '75, Darlene Henry Tribby '77, Ruth Moss '77, Martha Simpson Pearce '77, Janice Ball Amos '80, Dr. Willie Taylor and guests.  This group of alumni installed an Aquabelles Memory Case for permanent display in the William S. Ariail Hall of Fame.  The case is full of memorabilia from the Aquabelles, representing more than 200 alumni who participated in the program over its twenty year history. 

James E. Kirk Jr. 1965, Azle, TX, retired from Lockheed Martin in January 2012 after 44 years  as an Aero Engineer.

Joan Garner Powers 1979, Bennett, has retired after 32 years as a K-12 Special Ed. Teacher.

Leslie Andrews Thacker 1981, Collettsville, retired from teaching Exceptional Children in June 2012 after 30 years. The majority of her career was spent teaching for Caldwell County Schools.

Kimmerly Milner 1994, Greensboro, is currently participating in The Guilford Education Alliance Leadership Academy.

Melissa L. Herbert 2004, Sherrills Ford, has been teaching for 8 years. This is her 6th year teaching at Rocky River Elementary in Cabarrus County.

Andrew J. Hartman 2009, New York, NY, is an associate producer on an upcoming Broadway musical which will debut in the 2014-2015 season.  He is also investigating an option to do the pre-Broadway tryout in Greensboro, NC.

Charlene M. Wright 2010, Greensboro, began her job as a 2nd grade teacher this year at Greensboro Academy.
