Greensboro College Alumni PrideNotes, November 2010

General Announcements

Mary Fountain Hunt 1934 of Port Orange, Fla., shared the following update:"I am doing very well at almost 98 years old. I keep busy - playing my piano - also the full pedal organ for Bible study twice a week. I'm thankful I received the B.M. degree from Greensboro College."

Marguerite Thomason Leonard 1942, Thomasville, was recently chosen to receive the Volunteer of the Year award for 2010 by the Davidson Medical Ministries in Lexington. The agency provides medical services to un-insured patients in Davidson County. Leonard has been a volunteer with the agency for eight years. The award is named in memory of her sister, Jackie Sink, who was a long-time volunteer herself.

Janice Thompson Munsterman 1962 of Vienna, Va. was inducted into the Warren E. Burger Society on Nov. 19, 2010. This society honors those who have volunteered their time, support, and talent to the National Center for State Courts in various ways. Munsterman is retired from being the executive director of the State Justice Institute and has been involved with many court-administration issues much of her adult life. Kris Brunnemer Cooke 1968, Greensboro, gathered with members of the class of 1968 at Finch Chapel on Oct. 30, 2010 to honor the memory of their classmate, Camille Ogle Yorkey, who died in June. Those classmates were: Beverly Peacock Crotts, Kathryn Huggins Ford, Margaret Stewart Montana, Judy Scoggins Peede, Jane Barber Mack, Jann Haynes Gilmore, Frances Jones Tyson, Sally McLarty, Clare Ruch Abel, Wendy Edens Jessen, and Annie Henry. The class of 1968 gave a pottery communion serving set during the service to be dedicated to Yorkey's memory.

William "Bill" McClain 1975 was recently named the Rotarian of the Year by the Rotary Club based in Clemmons. McClain is the weed-and-seed director for the Center for Community Safety at Winston-Salem State University. He is also the owner of Mr. Bill's Productions. McClain has been involved with many fundraisers with the Rotary Club and other organizations. These include the "Rotary Rocks for Charities" fundraiser, activities with Hand in Hand organization, and fundraisers with the YMCA’s Camp Hanes. Read more about McClain's award here!

Karen Clark Peck 1983, Brown Summit, recently passed the renewal of her National Boards for Teaching Standards. Peck is currently employed with Guilford County Schools.

Eric S. Toedtman 1998 of Sylva was recently named the 2010 High School Health Educator of the Year. The award was presented to Toedtman by the NCAAHPERD.

Niccolo A. Gonzales 2000, Winston Salem, was hired at FFG Companies as a Wealth Management Advisor on Nov. 23. In his new position, Gonzales will be handling investment accounts, 401k plans, and insurance policies as well as providing financial planning to customers.

Jeffrey D. Lacey 2005, Greensboro, is currently the CRM Application Architect at Mavens Consulting Inc. He received this job after completing his MBA from UNCG in December 2009. Lacey and his wife, Sheresa L. Lacey 2004, welcomed their first son, Cole Alexander, in July.

Emily Otwell Woodard 1939, Raleigh, died Oct. 25, 2010. (obituary)

Agnes Crawford Tucker 1951, and her husband, Frank Tucker of Southern Pines, died Oct. 27, 2010, in a head-on collision. (obituary)

Olema Grant Harris 1956, Chapel Hill, died Oct. 17, 2010. (obituary)

Elizabeth Wilkie Shepard 1956 of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Nov. 15, 2010, of Alzheimer’s disease. (obituary)

Edward H. Bryant Jr. 1961 of Richmond Va., died on Nov. 15, 2010. While Bryant attended Greensboro College, he was involved in the 1960 sit-ins for desegregation at the Woolworth's store in downtown Greensboro. Eugenia Houston Wallace 1998, and Scotty D. Wallace of Taylorsville, in the loss of their son, Landon Scotty Wallace on Oct. 29. 2010. (Landon Wallace's obituary)


Births/Adoptions

Owen Josuha was born to Kristy Titcomb Miller 2001 and husband Josuha Miller of Clinton, N.J., on Nov. 2, 2010.

Charlotte Cecilia Abell was born to Nicole Forcht Abell 1997 and James Abell, Greensboro, on June 14, 2010.


Marriages

Jennifer Cope Gooding 2001 and James Hodge, Lexington, were married on Aug. 9, 2010. The ceremony was attended by their twin daughters Grace and Faith.

Paige Dennis 2010, Sophia, was married to Cody Clark on Nov. 6, 2010.
