Dr. Jann Haynes
Gilmore 1968, Alexandria, VA, has written her most recent biography on
20th-century artist Olive Rush. Her
book will be launched in Santa Fe, NM in October. Published by the Museum of New Mexico Press,
this is the first scholarly study of
Rush, who was born into an Indiana Quaker family with roots in North
Carolina. She studied art at the
Corcoran Museum School in Washington, D.C., and in New York and Europe. Rush moved to Santa Fe's art colony in 1920
and became the dean of the women artists in that renowned art community until
her death in 1966. The title of the
biography is "Olive Rush: Finding Her Place in the Santa Fe Art
Colony." Dr. Gilmore has been
invited to give a talk on her book during Alumni Weekend in April 2017.
