General Announcements
Charlotte Ray Derrough 1946 of Asheville, will join us in welcoming her son, Roger Derrough, as the speaker for Greensboro College's Senior Luncheon. Mr. Derrough is the founder and developer of the Earth Fare store chain.
Susan Hadley Cyr 1967, Durham, has retired after teaching reading for 7 years, being a counselor for 25 years with the NC Public School system, and most recently after being a counselor for 10 years with the Pittsylvania County School system in Va.
David C. Nichols 1980 and Luanne C. Nichols of Berryville, Va, have recently purchased land in Burlington, NC in preparation for moving back to NC. Their daughter Elizabeth graduated from GC two years ago and their son Taylor is currently a GC freshman football player.
Dr. J. Frank Howard 1984, recently wrote the book, "Say What? Understanding the Power of the Words We Speak" to help people understand how to phrase their words in a careful manner. Howard is currently the pastor at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Read more about Dr. Howard's book here.
Dr. Angela R. Ballentine 1987, Raleigh, has been named Interim President of Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson, Nc. Read more about Ballentine's career opportunity here.
Debra Brown Krupica 1988, Cumming, Ga, has opened Glazed and Fired, a paint your own pottery and art studio in Cumming, Ga. It offers canvas painting, PMC jewelry design classes, and open studio hours for pottery painting.
Jennifer McFarland McCaughey 1993, Amissville, Va, has accepted a position as an adjunct nursing instructor for Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.
Jennifer Burton Ferriera 1996, Fort Mill, SC, gave her Sacred Music Recital at Greensboro College on Oct. 3, 2011. Burton has been involved with Opera Carolina, Piedmont Opera Theatre, and Central Piedmont Opera since her graduation from GC in 1996.
Patricia Raube Keller 1998, Mandan, Nd, has been named as University of Mary's Director of Compliance and Senior Women's Administrator. Read more about Keller's career opportunity here.
Christy Ann McBride Bailey 2002, Greensboro, was named the Assistant Principal at Western Rockingham Middle School on Aug. 1, 2011. Bailey also opened Rita's of Greensboro in July 2011 and hired 4 Greensboro College students to work at the store!
Sheresa Barbee Lacey 2004, Greensboro, is the recent co-owner of a cloth diaper business called All About Baby Boutique. They will soon be offering a variety of mom and baby education programs as well as products. They hope to open up a Greensboro store in addition to the web site that they currently offer. Ian P. Bailey 2008, Cornelius, is still working at Octagon but is now an account executive for the Bank of America account. Bailey's duties include managing multiple sport marketing programs for this account.
Julee Fortune Marshall and Cathy Jansen, former Secretaries of Odell Building and Cowan Building respectively, have been given an upgraded job title in order to reflect their current duties. Effective immediately, both Marshall and Jansen are Administrative Assistants to the Faculty.
Virginia Reid, former Secretary of Professional and Graduate Studies, has been promoted to Administrative Assistant to Academic Affairs. Her new position includes an office change to the third floor of Main Building and new duties related to academic affairs administration.
